Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty)

What does it involve?

As a consequence of being overweight, through weight loss or pregnancies, many patients suffer from excess skin and fat in the abdomen which is removed with a tummy tuck. Abdominoplasty surgery greatly improves the profile and shape of the body, and is usually done in conjunction with liposuction to the hips (“love handles”) in order to improve and reshape the waistline.

Abdominoplasty is performed under general anaesthesia and takes approximately 2 hours, during which time, if necessary, the abdominal muscles are pulled back together in order to give new tension to the abdominal wall. As a result, the abdomen will be much flatter, the waistline will be thinner, the skin more tense and the scars will be easily hidden as they are below the bikini line and inside the belly button.

After surgery

During the first week following surgery, the patient will need to rest but from the 2nd week they will be able to start resuming their normal routine. Normal sports activities can be resumed after the 4th week. After surgery, the patient will need to wear an elastic corset which helps reshape the skin and reduce swelling.
