I am a 49 year old woman with three grown up children and had a kangaroo pouch any kangaroo would have been proud of but it was the cause of much unhappiness and depression for me. My self-confidence was practically non-existent and my weight had crept up to a size 16/18 in clothes. I rarely went out socially as I felt ugly and disgusted with myself and felt nothing looked good on me. My lovely husband always tried to reassure me he loved me no matter what but I hadn't let him see me completely naked for years! No amount of exercising I did could remove this awful ugly burden and I was terribly unhappy so I began looking into having cosmetic surgery.
Having spent the good part of a year extensively researching tummy tucks and liposuction procedures and reading the credentials and reviews of surgeons and clinics all over the Europe, I finally took the plunge and called a few of them I was interested in but as soon as I spoke to Louise Truelove, the patient co-ordinator of Aria Medical, I knew these were the people I would be happy to trust with my life. Louise put me at ease right from the start. She was friendly and so easy to talk to yet maintained total professionalism throughout, responding to my emails and calls virtually immediately and answering any questions or concerns I had whether big or small to my utmost satisfaction. Nothing was too much trouble but what I really liked was that there was no sales pitch and no false promises from them and I was never pressured or hurried into making a decision.
Once I had made the decision to go ahead with Aria Medical I felt so excited and couldn't wait to get the surgery done. This was something I had wanted for over 20 years and now my dream was about to come true!
I met with the highly respected Dr Marco Vricella for my initial consultation before surgery. Dr Vricella is a delightful man and made me feel totally at ease. As he examined me, professionally and carefully drawing the lines on my body with a marker which is indicative of tummy tuck surgery, he told me what he could do for me and what to realistically expect after surgery. He didn't sugar-coat anything and explained in honest detail what would happen during the surgery, answering any questions I had. My husband was with me and Dr Vricella and Louise both made sure to include him every step of the way, asking about his concerns as well as mine. I felt total confidence in Dr Vricella and was happy to put myself in this amazing surgeon's hands.
On the morning of the surgery I changed into a gown and put on the obligatory surgical stockings. I was understandably extremely nervous at this stage so Louise arranged for the very sweet and sympathetic Anaethestist to give me a little sedative just to take the edge off. Louise then walked with me to the theatre, holding my hand and reassuring me every step of the way. Everyone in surgery despite being busy getting ready, made a point of smiling at me and saying hello which made me feel so at ease. My heart was racing with trepidation and excitement! I lay down and was given an oxygen mask to breathe deeply into and started to drift......the last thing I remember seeing was Louise smiling down at me and then I closed my eyes to the feel of her stroking my forehead and squeezing my hand reassuringly, telling me I was in the best possible hands and not to worry about a thing.
The next thing I remember is waking up to Louise's lovely caring smiling face, holding my hand, and telling me it was all over, everything had gone exceptionally well and that I was going to be absolutely thrilled with the results. I was so relieved! I was in recovery for a few hours where I was checked on and monitored extensively. I never felt alone or frightened. My husband had been in the waiting area for me all those hours but Louise made a point of going out frequently to give him updates and let him know what was happening every step of the way, making sure he was ok and putting his mind at ease.
After a few hours in recovery, I was then taken to my beautiful hospital suite to recover further and rest. Every one of the nursing staff were absolute angels and I was frequently asked if I was in any pain at all. I had a little discomfort obviously but not much pain at that point. I had drips up and was checked on every half hour and if I felt any pain or twinges at all it was addressed immediately which made my recovery so much better than I expected. Two days later I was well enough for discharge into Damien Moore's care.
Damien Moore is a specialist nurse and the Clinical Services Director for Aria Medical, but to us Damien was quite simply a treasure! He picked us up from the hospital and took us to his villa where we had decided I would spend the next 10 days recovering. Damien is such a lovely man, friendly and attentive but yet totally professional - we couldn’t have asked for anyone better. Not only did I have amazing 24/7 on hand medical attention but he took care of all our needs and cooked us the most amazing meals!
I did have drains in and had read so many horror stories about getting them out that by the time it came for me to have them removed I was beside myself with worry, but Damien was gentle and reassuring and although not pleasant the drains came out with a little discomfort but virtually no pain at all ~ nothing like I had been imagining ~ and I felt so much better once they were out. After a few days the stitches came out and I actually felt well enough to get all dressed up and meet with Damien and Louise for a meal! I felt so good, a little tender but overall remarkably well for having gone through a full abdominoplasty and quite extensive liposuction just a few days beforehand! By the end of the first week I was walking practically upright, feeling absolutely great and looking so much better.
Today just two weeks after surgery, my wound is healing beautifully, the swelling and bruising are diminishing more and more each day and this morning I have slipped effortlessly into a size 14 which is actually loose on me and that's with the surgical garment still on!! Once the swelling and bruising go away totally and in another couple of weeks when I no longer have to wear the surgical garment I will be even slimmer ~ I can't wait to wear all those size 12's hanging in the wardrobe I thought I'd never get into again! I love my new shape and my fabulous flat tummy!
I cannot recommend Aria Medical highly enough and would not hesitate to go back to them for any future surgery I may want.
